Toastmaster CC1 - Ice breaking speech - P1
A
warming Good afternoon to all fellow toastmasters & honorable
guests,
My name is Dipanwita, but usually people call me Dipa. I was born on 8th May.
My father is a self-employed person. My mother has been taken care of our household. I have a brother. My brother is one of my best friends. We usually share each & everything of our life. I can't imagine my childhood without my brother. I spent first 20yrs of my life, with my beloved parents, in my hometown Howrah. This is an industrial city of West Bengal, often termed as Sheffield of the East. I have completed my Graduation from Calcutta University. My parents thought I should take Teaching as a Profession as this is the most suitable job for girls. But I had some other plans for my future. After a cold war, I took admission in MCA. After completing my MCA, I became the part of IT Industry. I joined as trainee & started my career as a software engineer.
There was a huge change in my life when I shifted to Delhi. Different language, different culture and different life style created lots of trouble for me. But with God grace, I had successfully overcome all the hurdles & be able to reach here. When I met my soul mate, I believed the quote that Women's are from Venus and Men's are from Mars.because he is completely different from me. By profession, he is a social worker. During his field visit, sometimes I accompanied him & got a chance to see the real cruelty of our so called social structure.
I am a bookworm. The credit goes to my mother. In my childhood, she used to give us a book & asked us to complete that book within a specified time limit. She bribed us that if we were able to complete it then we can opt any sweet as per our choice from nearby sweet shop. Me & my brother are very fond of sweets from childhood. So without cheating we try to complete it within the time frame. I can remember, how we got up early in morning & went to the sweet shop to choose the sweets that we should opt for that day. This trick created the interest of reading books in me. You don't believe, before completing my 10th standard, I had completed 80% books of our local library. Reading book gives me immanence pleasure.
I also have interest in traveling & exploring the unknown places. I had explored maximum places of North India. I like solo traveling. Being from the coastal area, mountains attract me a lot.
My friend says I am an introvert which is not 100% true. I don't like to share my problems & sorrows as everyone has their own sets of problem. So instead of discussing & worrying, I should handle them by my own.
Hard-work & dedication are my strength. I like to take challenges & always learn from my mistakes. I don't know what does the future has store for me, but I know I can prepare myself to face it. As Stacey Charter quoted once “Life is all about timing... the unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable becomes available, the unattainable... attainable. Have the patience, wait it out. It's all about timing.”
